T-Shirt Quilting Class

T-Shirt quilts are popular, and they make the perfect quilt to preserve memories or as a wonderful gift for a special person. In this one-day class you will learn to take those precious memory t-shirts and turn them into a one-of-a-kind quilt.

We will be making a T-Shirt quilt similar to the following picture. This project will enable you to learn learn techniques of quilting from cutting to finish.

Following are the supplies you will need to provide:

  • A sewing machine in good working order
  • A new machine needle
  • Thread to match your sashing color
  • A square Quilting ruler at least 12 “X 12”
  • A quilting ruler for cutting strips ( I use a 6 X 24)
  • SF 101 stabilizer
  • A selection of T-Shirts. (These will be cut up so don’t bring any you want to
    keep in tact.)
  • About a yard and a half – two yards of a cotton material of your choice of
    color. (This will be for the sashing and binding.)

This is a not-for-credit course.
As such, you will not earn units and the class will not be reflected on your banner schedule or on transcripts. As a not-for-credit course, Financial Aid cannot be used to pay for or offset the costs of this course.

Juanita Cairns

Juanita Cairns is a retired educator.  She has been quilting and sewing for over 30 years.  She is also working as an adjunct instructor in the Fashion Department at COS teaching beginning sewing.  She also independently teaches classes in quilting from beginning quilting through free motion quilting.  You can see many of her award-winning quilts posted on her Facebook site “Juanita’s Sew with Me.”
